Me too! I had my Mercedes completely overhauled, all new parts, my bulldog needs AC or he would just cook.

I'm legitimately impressed. The AC in my XJ12 never worked...not when I had it, not when my grandfather had it (since it was 5 years old), never. I'm convinced it was defective from the factory.

Same, 32 year old car, just got it fixed a few weeks ago, had a few leaks and one of my blowers was dead.

To be fair all I my dad had to do was replace a o-ring, hook up the wires and fill it with r-134a.

Knock on faux wood, but the A/C in my ‘84 Lincoln is still meat locker cold. Actually, it seems more powerful than the one in my new car.

If it still has R-12 in it then it probably is colder than a modern system.

My truck has working A/C right now. It usually requires one charge per year. It's cheaper than replacing a ton of parts at this point, considering I don't drive it that often.

How much of the car did you have to take apart?

I only had to take off two heat shields

If it's not broke is there ever a need to convert a car?

I’m sure there’s a few specialty cases here and there but 90% of the time it’ll be fine. Just make sure to purge all of the old r12 and if you really want to play it safe you can get a oil made for r134a since sometimes the r12 oil will gel up with r134a.
